I wanted to share this image of my grandfather (with his permission) as it really shows who he is: a quiet, gentle and peaceful man. He is quiet indeed but his eyes always tell me a lot about how he feels. And here, he was looking at my grandmother, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren with a lot of happiness and pride in his eyes.
My grandfather continually amazes me. At age 85, he is still gardening and growing some magnificent flowers, and incredible fruit and vegetables (I learned a lot about food spending my childhood holidays in my grandparents' garden). And for as long as I have known him, he keeps his afternoon pattern quite strict but enjoyable: after lunch, a bit more gardening, a nap to rest (naps are honestly a great thing!), then he does his daily crosswords (with some help from my cousins and I when we were kids, or even now when we are visiting) and watches Les Chiffres et Les Lettres (Countdown). On top of this little ritual, my grandmother and him often go for a long walk or bike ride during the day (and everyday if the weather allows it). And when I say bike ride, it usually is a 10 to 15 kilometres one! My grandfather used to be a postman in Paris, I guess he got some excellent training there.
I really look up to him for the lifestyle he has and all the things he taught me and still does (I discover a new plant or flower almost every time I visit).
